In prepping for the 2020 move to more online based teaching, I came across the following scroll (https://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/2607809). It is the first of two parts of the road from Edo to Nagasaki. As we were studying the Tokaido in class, I thought it would be a really interesting resource for my second year students.
I’ve rearranged the images into a pdf such that the images fit together, and annotated it somewhat, adding a few images from the Tokaido.
It reads best in a pdf reader like firefox which allows ‘horizontal scrolling’ – if you can do that then you can read it continuously scrolling (from right (east)} to left (west)) just like the original scroll.
